Rafael van der Vaart completed his after-hours transfer to Tottenham and then spoke of a ‘beautiful’ future together.
Spurs will pay Real Madrid £8.7million for the Holland playmaker, who signs a four-year deal at White Hart Lane and is in line for a debut at West Bromwich Albion after the international break.
‘I am excited about playing in England,’ said 27-year-old Van der Vaart, who has Euro 2012 qualifiers against San Marino and Finland before he reports to his new club.

Plenty to shout about: Van der Vaart will soon be wearing the white of Spurs
‘Whether it suits my style remains to be seen, but I think a good footballer can adapt and I am very proud of the transfer.
‘I want to play beautiful football again, if possible every week, with a beautiful club. I am totally happy.’ More >

Give me a break: Jose Mourinho takes charge of his first game as Real manager which ended in a draw
Jose Mourinho has warned Real Madrid fans not to expect miracles from him and told them: ‘I’m not Harry Potter.’
The Portuguese oversaw a goalless draw at Real Mallorca in his opening La Liga match in charge, a result which was something of a disappointment for supporters following the fanfare of his arrival at the Bernabeu.
But Mourinho believes his team, including new men such as Ricardo Carvalho, Angel Di Maria and Mesut Ozil, need time to gel.
‘Look, I’m a coach, I’m not Harry Potter,’ he told AS. ‘He is magical, but in reality there is no magic. Magic is fiction and football is real.
‘I have been in Madrid a couple of months and we’ve had 40 training sessions. Do you know how many training sessions we have had together, including the new signings? Not 10. I repeat: not 10.’
Mourinho is determined to completely change the way Real played last season and says the players are still adapting to his new style of play.
‘The easiest thing for me would have been not to change anything,’ he said, ‘To play like we played last year and keep the structure that already existed. More >

Robinho has left Manchester City to sign for AC Milan on a permanent basis.
The Brazilian was expected to join the Italian giants on an initial loan deal but Milan agreed a long-term switch, with the forward signing a four-year deal.

Thank you and goodbye: Robinho at City's Carrington training ground earlier this month
It was the biggest move on a hectic final day of the transfer window.
Robinho arrived at City in 2008 as the British record signing in a £32.5million move from Real Madrid, but he failed to settle or show his obvious talents in the Barclays Premier League.
Initial reports suggest City could eventually receive up to £22m from Milan, with add-ons, while Robinho may have halved his £160,000 a week Eastlands wages by moving to Italy.
Milan had been expected to sign only Zlatan Ibrahimovic or Robinho, but the fact that the former joined from Barcelona on loan without a fee up front left cash for another swoop.
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar was off-loaded to Schalke in a £10.5m deal today, while Marco Borriello has headed on loan to Roma with the option of a future £8.3m deal. The Italy striker had earlier been linked with Liverpool and was in talks with Juventus.
Robinho turned down a move to Turkey earlier this month and told City he was only interested in moving to Italy or Spain.
A bid from Barcelona failed to materialise but he could not conceal his delight when turning up for his medical in Milan today.
”I hope to meet my new team-mates and become champions with them,’ he said. ‘I am really happy to be here. Milan are a fantastic club. I hope to show that our attack is the strongest in Europe.
‘I haven’t spoken to Pato or Ronaldinho yet, but I hope the negotiation ends well and I can’t wait to meet them. To the fans I say that I am very happy.’

The England striker scored for the first time since March to put the hosts ahead before second half strikes from Nani and Dimitar Berbatov sealed the victory.Rooney had not found the net since his first minute effort against Bayern Munich but he finished confidently enough from the spot after Jonathan Spector had upended Ryan Giggs.

Hero, not Villain: Luke Young grabbed a rare goal to seal the points from Aston Villa
Luke Young was ignored for reasons unknown by former Aston Villa boss Martin O’Neill. If the right back wanted to send his old boss a message and help appoint his successor, he chose the perfect time to do so.
His coolly-struck eighth-minute goal somehow earned Villa’s caretaker boss Kevin MacDonald a second straight home victory in the Barclays Premier League as the Scot’s hopes of landing the job were given a huge boost.

Jose Mourinho had to settle for a point in his first Primera Division game in charge of Real Madrid after drawing a blank at Real Mallorca.
The visitors were largely uninspiring yet still created enough chances to have won comfortably with Gonzalo Higuain and Cristiano Ronaldo uncharacteristically wasteful in front of goal.
And with Mallorca goalkeeper Dudu Aouate turning in a wonderful display, there was no way through for Madrid’s star-studded team.
Barcelona’s sparkling 3-0 win at Racing Santander earlier in the day set a marker for Madrid but they were unable to get anywhere near the Catalan giants’ level of performance.
