Tottenham new boy Rafael van der Vaart hails his ‘beautiful’ move after sealing switch from Real Madrid
Rafael van der Vaart completed his after-hours transfer to Tottenham and then spoke of a ‘beautiful’ future together.
Spurs will pay Real Madrid £8.7million for the Holland playmaker, who signs a four-year deal at White Hart Lane and is in line for a debut at West Bromwich Albion after the international break.
‘I am excited about playing in England,’ said 27-year-old Van der Vaart, who has Euro 2012 qualifiers against San Marino and Finland before he reports to his new club.

‘Whether it suits my style remains to be seen, but I think a good footballer can adapt and I am very proud of the transfer.

Jose Mourinho has warned Real Madrid fans not to expect miracles from him and told them: ‘I’m not Harry Potter.’
The Portuguese oversaw a goalless draw at Real Mallorca in his opening La Liga match in charge, a result which was something of a disappointment for supporters following the fanfare of his arrival at the Bernabeu.
But Mourinho believes his team, including new men such as Ricardo Carvalho, Angel Di Maria and Mesut Ozil, need time to gel.
‘Look, I’m a coach, I’m not Harry Potter,’ he told AS. ‘He is magical, but in reality there is no magic. Magic is fiction and football is real.
‘I have been in Madrid a couple of months and we’ve had 40 training sessions. Do you know how many training sessions we have had together, including the new signings? Not 10. I repeat: not 10.’
Mourinho is determined to completely change the way Real played last season and says the players are still adapting to his new style of play.

Javier Mascherano completes his move to Barcelona…and immediately hits out at Liverpool
Javier Mascherano completed his troubled move to Barcelona on Monday night, then accused Liverpool of lying.
The Argentina captain was labelled ‘selfish’ by Anfield boss Roy Hodgson, who claimed the midfielder had refused to play for the club in a Europa League tie to try to force through his move.

He may have won three Serie A titles with arch rivals and stadium sharers Inter but Zlatan Ibrahimovic got a warm reception at the San Siro as he was unveiled to the masses. The fear is that the faltering Rossoneri place far too much in the way of a burden of hope on the Swede’s ample shoulders.
It’s been five seasons since the club’s last domestic title and since winning the Champions League back in 2007 Ac Milan have failed to get as far as the last 16 since. A lot will be expected of the former Barcelona man who will at least have fond memories of Milan and does indeed have a point to prove. More >

Primera Division: Real Mallorca 0 – 0 Real Madrid
Jose Mourinho had to settle for a point in his first Primera Division game in charge of Real Madrid after drawing a blank at Real Mallorca.
The visitors were largely uninspiring yet still created enough chances to have won comfortably with Gonzalo Higuain and Cristiano Ronaldo uncharacteristically wasteful in front of goal.
And with Mallorca goalkeeper Dudu Aouate turning in a wonderful display, there was no way through for Madrid’s star-studded team.
Barcelona’s sparkling 3-0 win at Racing Santander earlier in the day set a marker for Madrid but they were unable to get anywhere near the Catalan giants’ level of performance.

Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and David Villa struck as La Liga champions Barcelona picked up where they finished off last season with a 3-0 win at Racing Santander.
Messi, who grabbed a hat-trick in the Spanish Super Cup last weekend, only needed four minutes to rip open the defence and score with a delightful lob.
Iniesta followed up with a volley from outside the area and new signing Villa headed his first league goal in a Barca shirt, after Victor Valdes had saved a penalty before the break.
Pep Guardiola’s side appeared unruffled by the contentious exit of Zlatan Ibrahimovic to AC Milan and laid down the marker for Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid, who open their campaign at Real Mallorca in the late game.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE DRAW: Tottenham land holders Inter Milan while Manchester United and Rangers face Battle of Britain.
UEFA Champions League Draw - Group Stage
Champions League new boys Tottenham Hotspur were handed a baptism of fire in the group stage – drawing holders Inter Milan in Group A.
Manchester United face a Battle of Britain in Group C alongside Rangers, while Arsenal secured a reunion with their ex-striker Eduardo da Silva by pulling Shakhtar Donetsk in Group H.
Former Chelsea midfielder Didier Deschamps will take his French champions Marseille to Stamford Bridge in Group F.
UEFA Champions League Trophy
Manchester United were the first team out of the hat in Monaco and, as well as Rangers, will also have to face Spanish side Valencia and Turkish champions Bursaspor.
Alongside Inter Milan, Spurs face the much less daunting task of taking on German side Werder Bremen and Twente, the club Steve McClaren led to the Dutch title before jumping ship to Wolfsburg.
Carlo Ancelotti, who is determined to land the Champions League crown after regaining the Premier League title last season, face Slovakian champions Zilina and Aiden McGeady’s new side Spartak Moscow, as well as Marseille.
The Gunners face a lengthy trip to face Ukrainian champions Shakhtar and will also venture into Eastern Europe to face Serbia’s Partizan Belgrade. Celtic’s conquerers Braga – the Portuguese League runners-up – are the other side in Group H.
Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid were the team everyone were fearing from Pot Two and the Spanish giants landed AC Milan, Ajax and Auxerre in Group G.
The four teams in each group play each other home and away, with the top two progressing to the knock-out stages in the spring.
UEFA also used the gala event to reveal the winners of their annual awards. Inter Milan goalkeeper Julio Cesar was named goalkeeper of the year after helping the Italians to the Champions League last season, though he suffered disappointment with Brazil in the World Cup finals.
Cesar’s Inter and Brazil team-mate Maicon was named defender of the year, while another San Siro idol Wesley Sneijder took the midfielder’s award.
Argentina striker Diego Milito made it a clean sweep for Inter – who won the Italian League and Cup as well as Europe’s top competition – by taking the trophy for striker of the year.
